For 2019 what are the key packaging trends  and new products for the aerosol market ?

As an aerosol contract filler, it is very interesting to look at the trends happening on our markets. They are good indicators of what the end customers like and expect. Also we are going to visit Cosmoprof next week in Bolonia (biggest beauty fair in Europe) and this visit should be a good indicators about those trends.

Before we start with the trends for the aerosol market, it is important to remember how this market is structured.

Out of the 9 billion cans in aerosol sold in 2018, the personal care (deodorants, shaving foam) is almost 50% of the aerosol market, then the home care/household (air care, cleaning products) is nearly 40% and the remaining 10% are for the food category.

Not surprisingly, in the trends we will present now the personal care section will be more present. The result of those trends shows the aerosol market will be driven by innovations (new sensorial experience, new use) and sustainable packaging.

For all those innovations presented above, PROERSA has also developed its own formulations and is able to offer you those products.

In this article we have chosen to highlight a few of last year’s innovations

1) Aerosol in the shower: shower mousse. Those products are a great combination of new use (aerosol in the shower) and  new sensorial experiences.
e.g. Nivea silk mousse from Beiersdorf

2) Coppertone whipped sunscreen is also a good inspiration as it reproduces the texture of whipped cream and allow the consumer to have a non greasy and dry sunscreen.

3) Dry shampoo. Dry shampoo is a new use of the aerosol. It has become very popular in the last few years and is also a product that should continue to grow by 5% in the next five years.

4) Compressed deodorants is also a technology that should gain tractions because of the consumer’s expectations about environment and sustainable packaging.

In the home care sections, there has been some innovations that need to be also mentioned.
– 2 in 1 air freshener and fabric freshener by Febreze which provides a handy combination of applications.
dry wash spray Day 2 by Unilever is also offering a new experience to consumers. It offers the possibility to dry wash your clothes: anti-odour, crease removal and fibre softener.
